F.A.Q.
Frequently Asked Questions
It is a system that allows spreading and listening to music in several zones (residence rooms), starting from a central zone (ex. living room), by using different sources (CD player, DVD, sat receiver, etc.), it allows independent control and management of each zone.
The CA10 is a simple but efficient multiroom system, it manages up to 12 zones, 4 audio in, to be wired starting from 3 main lines and then parallel connections. Bus IR for sources control and zone settings, video interfaceable (with CA3MKII via IR); it’s composed of GIOVE CA10 controller and GIOVE RC10 remote controls (tones regulation, volume adjustment, 4 audio in, 15+15W...) The CA20_CA21 is a technologically advanced multiroom system, it manages up to 32 zones (view details), it integrates many functions for IR codes managing, recallable presets (scenes), and communication ports for interfacing with most domotic systems (KNX, Vimar, Bticino, etc..), video interfaceable (with CA3MKII via 485); it’s composed of GIOVE CA20_CA21 and GIOVE RC20 remote controls (equipped with integrated FM Tuner, equalizer, loudness, tones regulation, volume regulation, audio in, pre-out, 25+25W...)
4 audio analogical sources can be managed, connectable to the rear of the controller (RCA/PIN plugs) such as CD players, DVD, decoder, etc..
9 sources can be managed: up to 6 analogical sources, connectable to the rear of the controller (RCA/PIN plugs) – as CD players, DVD, decoder, etc.. - , 1 mp3 reader for USB pen drives (plug in the front), 1 integrated FM tuner + 1 local in for each RC20 remote control (these 2 last locally managed, not shareable with the other zones).
Yes, but with some some limitations: the RC20 works also at 12V, it doesn’t communicate with the CA10, the IR bus doesn’t work, you can connect only 2 of the 4 sources connected to the CA10 (that becomes 1 in case of GIOVE USB or GIOVE AUXIN connection).
The CA20_CA21 has 8 independent zones (expandable up to 16 by adding 8 subzones), with stereo signal. The CA20_CA21 has 16 independent zones (expandable up to 32 by adding 16 subzones), in this case the signal is “mono” (there must be bridged between right channel and left channel on RC20 remote controls..).
The subzone is an additional RC20 remote control that is parallely connected to another RC20, which represents the main zone. This way it is possible to gain one more zone without adding a second controller or without wiring one more cable from the controller. Subzones have only one limitation: it is not possible to listen one audio source that is DIFFERENT from that selected in the main zone, to which they are submitted (except for internal tuner). Subzones programming is made from the CA20_CA21 (or CA20_CA21) menu, and there can be chosen MIRROR or SLAVE mode.
In the MIRROR configuration the subzone “reproduces” exactly some functions of the zone to which it is connected. These functions can be decided by the user between: on/off, volume, tones, tuning.
If, for example, there are 3 RC20 connected in MIRROR and you decrease volume from the first even in the other 2, volume will be decreased at the same level. In the SLAVE config the control called “Master” imposes the chosen parameters to the other controls settled as “slave”, but not the same on the other side. If, for example, the RC20 n. 1 is settled as MASTER and the RC20 n. 9 as its SLAVE, by increasing volume in 1 it will be increased also in 9, but if you decrease in 9, volume will not be decreased in 1.
For the CA10 or CA20_CA21 must be used the VG10 from the controller to the remote controls, common 2x1 mmq or 2x0,75mmq cable from controls to speakers. For the CA4 system must be used the VG1042 from the controller to the remote controls, common 2x0,75mmq (max 2x1mmq) cable from controls to speakers.
The Giove CA20_CA21 system is “star”-type, each VG10 cable starts from a zone out of the controller connecting to its opportunely addressed RC20. For the CA10 and CA4 systems each control is parallely connected to the others but due to supply charge controls number is limited, see it in user manual.
The star-type wiring is represented by a common unique starting point (the controller) to all its peripherical points (zones). The parallel wiring is referred to the possibility, starting from the controller to a zone, to connect other zones parallely to the first.
All GND of various wires (including main GND) inside the VG10 cable can be joined together and directly connected to the negative pole supply (V-). For easy mounting of RC10 or RC20 controls, it is suggested to strip the cable 10cm from the end (where it will be connected to the control screw connector), join all the GND and separate them from the other wires, bring them back to the negative pole and use insulating tape for avoiding short circuits.
It could be that they haven’t been addressed or that they are not correctly addressed. If the only source that can be heard is the internal tuner, you can check if they are correctly addressed as explained in the user manual.
Inside the controller there are 50 IR storages, each of them can support 1 IR instruction, that can be acquired by a simple proceeding, illustrated in the manual. The storages have a progressive number which corresponds to the standard instruction symbols of most common sources (play-stop- skip track etc..) already settled in the RC20 , following a pattern inserted in the manual. Following this table you can manage furthermore audio sources (es. activating CD and playing) directly commanding from the local RC20 control, with no need of remote control devices.
As premise, it is necessary that wirings are correctly fulfilled, following check that SIR1 emitter is in the right position, in front of the IR receiver of the device to be verified. For identifying the IR receiver, a clear light should be useful, it is usually placed behind a dark plastic window, if not countersigned with the “SR” script. Make sure that the IR outs are activated by the controller setup menu (only for Giove CA20_CA21 controller) and that SIR1 emitter is connected to the right out in the rear of the Giove controller (we remind you that out n. 6 of the GIOVE CA20_CA21 controller is SKY HD dedicated). For checking if the IR light is emitted by the SIR1, it could be used a mobile phone endowed with camera, as the sensor of such devices is IR instructions sensitive and it allows to view product signalling led from the SIR1.
There are some RC20 controls with external IR sensor (GIOVE RIR1), which can be placed up to 20mt from the RC20 (ex. in a blind cap). Specify when ordering the required version.
In the rear of the Giove controllers, corresponding to each in, there is a rotating knob “GAIN” that allows to equalize sensitivity between sources.
Yes, from the front panel of the CA20_CA21 controller it is possible to make some maintanance and control operations. More precisely, from the “CTR parameters” menu, it is possible to control how many RC20 controls are connected to the controller and from the “CMB parameters” you can act on the various parameters of the controls.
Each remote control is endowed with 2 amplified outs, to each out there can be connected some low impedance speakers, but the MINIMUM load limit must be respected (if lower, the amplifier could be seriously damaged), the limit is 4 Ohm for channel. If there are more than 2 speakers you can fulfil SERIES or PARALLEL wirings, even staying above the 4 Ohm limit. (Ex. with 4 speakers 8 Ohm you can connect 2 for channel parallely: total impedance 4 Ohm).
Yes, you can wire series and/or parallely according to impedance, without getting off the limit of 4 Ohm for channel. If you have 3 speakers and you join 2 in one channel there will be some volume differences between 2 channels (we suggest to add a RC10 control, to which connecting the third speaker).
You can use the GIOVE RC20 in “stand alone” configuration, adding GIOVE AL3 power supply, 1 GIOVE AUXIN or 1 GIOVE USB for connecting local source to a blind cap, and 2 or more speakers.
No, because your GIOVE USB is an mp3 player itself, you can ONLY connect usb pen drives, containing mp3 files. But you can connect to the “auxin” 3,5 mini-jack input with audio/headphones outputs of most mp3 players on sale (iPod, etc..).
Yes, but they must comply all following characteristics: capacity up to 8 Gb, formatted in FAT32, mp3 bit rates up to 192 Kbps, mp3 files must be contained in folders named CD01, CD02, CD03.. etc. up to CD99, each folder fillable up to 99 mp3 files.
No, you can’t, for running a dolby system it is necessary a dolby-countersigned sintoamplifier, which enables a particular steering of the various speakers involved in the physical acoustic reproduction of the specific acoustic parameters. But you can share some of these speakers by our RC10 or RC20 controls, so that both systems can intellligently coexist and it is not necessary to buy additional speakers for the same zone/room (by using GIOVE PS7 or GIOVE PS20 switching systems).
By using the GIOVE PS20 and the GIOVE PS7 switching systems you can “share” the speakers you already use in the multiroom, EVEN for the home-cinema system. You connect to these cards the speakers, the sintoamplifier outputs, and the control (RC10 or RC20) outputs, also a special signal-cable, which communicates with the card when the control is on or off. If this control is on, so you’re using the multiroom, the speakers will be connected. If you turn off the control, the card will automatically switch the speakers to the home-cinema system.
Our CA20_CA21 system can run also a HDMI matrix, for distributing the signal in 1080p FULL HD all throughout the house. My customer has already connected a cable different from the VG10 and has already installed in-built cases of a different brand. Can I install your products? For what concerns the cable, we guarantee good-working of our devices ONLY when connecting our VG10 cable from the controls to the controller, and a common 2x0,75mmq cable from the control to the speakers. For what concerns the speakers we can offer solutions for any kind of in-built case.
There could be several solutions. The first could be using our “PERLA” speakers with controls mounted inside the speaker (to be specified when ordering) and so handling all the system by TCIR20 remote control device. Or you can use our MZ550A 5 zones, multiprogramme central for a simple but effective system, with listening to different programs in different zones.
The Giove CA20_CA21 and CA4 systems are endowed with serial port (RS232 on CA20_CA21, RS485 on CA4 ) used to control and manage systems parameters, by using our protocol. Upon customer’s request, free of charge, can be provided the advanced manual of these controllers, in which is indicated and described the adopted communication protocol. These informations allow to the domotic installer to implement the Giove system. For the advanced CA20_CA21 system the end user can have different advanced solutions for the “intelligent” management: GIOVE TOUCH35 touch panels for controllers endowed with LAN port (optional, code: GIOVE SCLAN), or a dedicated web server for those who prefer to use an internet browser (GIOVE WEBSERVER), and other wireless solutions for using iPhone, iPad etc..
In the “Scene” screw connector bar it is possible to connect some simple button contacts for activating 6 scenes. For “scene” we mean a recallable parameters preset: how many and which RC20 controls are on rather than off, for each of them can be settled volume, tones, channels (in case of TUNER channel you decide the radio frequency, in case of MP3 the exact track to be played first,) etc.. Inside the controller the scenes stored are 16, and from the front panel it is possible to choose the 6 to combine with the contacts on the rear. Instead, via serial protocol they all 16 are available. Scenes are programmed by connecting a PC via serial port to the controller, by using a specific application software called “Giove KProgram20”, available for sale upon request.
Yes, there is in our catalogue the GIOVE SERVERKNX interface, to be connected via serial port to the CA20_CA21 controllers on one side , and on the other side directly to the KNX bus by in/out screw connector for easy insertion in any position. The interface is configured by means of simple web pages, connecting via lan from each PC. It is possible to decide how many and which functions of the Giove system to manage via KNX, freely assigning addresses of the preselected groups (in the format XX/YY/ZZ).
